WORKIN' IT!... WITH SME's

Have you ever been tasked with developing or delivering organizational education that is outside your scope of knowledge? Perhaps your company is requesting job-specific or technical learning and you aren’t well equipped to meet those objectives on your own. Thank goodness for subject matter experts (SME’s)!
With special skills and knowledge, SME’s can provide guidance and credibility around a particular area. They will have examples and stories to share that can clarify questions and engage employees in a way that you alone could not. There are so many critical factors to consider when working with a SME: Are you working toward the same goal? Does their skill set match the scope of work? How is the flow of communication? It can be a rewarding and sometimes challenging relationship to foster.
Let’s discuss what makes the Learning/SME’s relationship run smoothly, and how we can connect more effectively with the experts who are such an invaluable part of our learning organizations.
“Sometimes, the experts forget they were once beginners. You must be gentle with beginners; they have great potential to be experts.” ― Lailah Gifty Akita, Think Great: Be Great!
